In Aotearoa New Zealand’s only subtropical region, outdoor activities are on the cards year-round. Choose to tackle the country’s northern-most and only coast to coast Great Ride, challenge yourself with three Heartland Rides, or get the heart pumping in one of the mountain bike parks around the region.

Pou Herenga Tai Twin Coast Cycle Trail
Taitokerau Northland’s Great Ride

Spanning from the Bay of Islands in the east to the Hokianga Harbour in the west, the Pou Herenga Tai Twin Coast Cycle Trail is Aotearoa New Zealand’s northern-most and only coast to coast Great Ride. The trail can be ridden in either direction in as little as two days and is suitable for all ages and abilities. Cycle hire, guided trips, and shuttle services are available. Crossing suspension bridges, traversing along disused rail corridors and through native bush this ride takes you on a fascinating journey through some of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most historically and culturally important sites.

Taitokerau Northland is also home to three Heartland Rides, mostly on-road routes that stretch the length of the region and connect to the Pou Herenga Tai Twin Coast Cycle Trail, and a number of other cycleways and trails to discover.
