Video series celebrates Te Wiki o te reo Māori
To celebrate the start of Te Wiki o te reo Māori today (Monday 14 September), Northland NZ is releasing a series of videos about how to respond to everyday sayings and questions, with the aim of encouraging people to speak te reo Māori.
The first video shows written examples of how to respond when someone asks,“How are you” and it uses a voice track to guide pronunciation. This video leads with Northland’s Ngāpuhi dialect which asks “Pēhea ana koe?” (“How are you?”) and provides a series of answers using a distinct sentence structure where the verb is placed between ‘e’ and ‘ana’, a grammatical structure that Ngāpuhi is known for.
Northland NZ's short video series will run throughout the week on our social media channels. The series also covers ways say welcome, goodbye and to respond to questions like "what are you doing?" and "what would you like to drink?".
This year’s official Te Wiki o te reo Māori promotion encourages people to ‘Find your Te Reo Town’ to discover a town’s reo Māori name. The reo maori website also includes resources for workplaces, schools, different phrases and word lists as well as guides on introducing yourself in te reo Māori.
To celebrate Te Wiki o te reo Māori we’ve produced a series of videos to encourage everyone to speak reo Māori.
