Whangārei District Walking Tracks

Things to do

The Whangārei District features an outstanding coastline along with stunning coastal and forest walks.

Whangārei is a hikers paradise, with a number of well-known and stunning hiking and walking tracks. Well known walks include the fully-accessible waterside Hātea Loop – Huarahi o te Whai boardwalk in Whangārei city, Parihaka Scenic Reserves and Mt Manaia and Te Whara tracks, both at Whangārei Heads.

There are many others to choose from; discover the longest footbridge in the southern hemisphere, stand beneath Tane Moana, the largest kauri tree remaining on the east coast, meander along boardwalks through pristine mangrove forests in tidal estuaries, spot rare and beautiful birds, maybe even hear a kiwi calling in the wild.
