Walk 18 – Phathouse Brewery and River Walk

Whats On

Saturday 11th October Begin your adventure with a scenic ferry ride from Russell to Paihia. From there, enjoy a leisurely walk along the Paihia waterfront to Waitangi, leading to the start of the Haruru Falls track. This sheltered trail offers stunning views, rich local history, and excellent birdwatching opportunities. The trail leads to the horseshoe-shaped Haruru Falls, whose name in Te Reo Māori—Haruru—means "to roar" or "big noise." Your journey continues to PhatHouse Brewery, where you’ll enjoy an immersive one-hour tour. Explore behind the scenes of the brewery, discover the fascinating story of Phat House Brewing Co., and learn how the building evolved into the vibrant brewery and bar it is today. Along the way, gain intriguing insights into the brewing process, including the chance to smell the hops, taste the grains, and sample beer straight from the tank! The tour also includes a tasting paddle of PhatHouse’s finest brews. To cap off your experience, indulge in a shared platter carefully curated by their talented Head Chef, Aaron Stott. Known for his fresh and vibrant menus, Chef Aaron’s creations offer an explosion of taste sensations with every bite! Depending on availability that week of fresh produce the menu will showcase a selection of irresistible bites along these lines - tender pork belly braised in PhatHouse crisp apple cider, accented with achiote, pickled pineapple, and coriander; golden curry cauliflower with a rich, aromatic sauce, toasted sesame, and spring onion; crispy squid dressed in vibrant tom yum with red onion and fresh coriander; and smoky, locally sourced brisket served with a bold jalapeño mustard.
