Taonga Puoro connects us to our traditions, our practices of the past. They return us to Te Taiao, the natural world that surrounds us.
Workshop run by Maudena Wood... Each Taonga has a pūrākau - a special story to be told, connections of Atua and whakapapa. We will go on a haerenga of discovery. We will look at the ways that Taonga Puoro are interwoven with our Taiao, their traditional uses and how the revival helped bring them into the modern world. I will share my experiences of using Taonga around our ngahere and our moana, their special relationship with our tohorā, our aihe. Those present will be encouraged to explore, combining their hā with that of the Taonga to make their own unique sound. One of my favourite Taonga Puoro are Hue. I will share the beauty of creating Taonga Puoro from Hue that have been grown at home in my māra. Taonga Puoro are powerfully healing and can inform, inspire and empower. This workshop is an opportunity to plant the seeds of Taonga Puoro and let them flourish.
