Book Binding Workshop with guest artist Terrie Reddish:

Terrie Reddish is a letterpress printer and bookbinder who creates fine press books, broadsheets, prints, and sculptural paper works using restored tools and vintage equipment. Inspired by both historical and contemporary book structures, her practice combines traditional craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and a deep appreciation for the book as a handmade object.

After studying bookbinding with Australian, American, French, and English binders, Terrie now teaches workshops throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. She is the Editrix of the Association of Book Crafts (NZ) Incorporated and Chair of the Association of Handcraft Printers, reflecting her dedication to supporting the book arts community.

Terrie is passionate about sharing her knowledge. Her workshops are welcoming and hands-on, giving participants the skills, confidence, and inspiration to continue exploring bookbinding long after the class ends.

Step back into the world of the early bookbinders with this hands-on Nag Hammadi style binding workshop at Te Kōwhai Print Trust.

Inspired by one of the earliest surviving codex structures discovered at Nag Hammadi, Egypt, you'll create your own elegant interpretation of this historic binding. Learn how to sew a single thick quire using traditional tackets, construct a limp cover with cartonnage-style stiffening, and finish your book with the characteristic envelope flap and optional wraparound ties. You'll also have the opportunity to customise the binding with a selection of structural variations.

All essential materials are provided, but you're warmly encouraged to bring your own leather, handmade papers, or printed pages if you'd like to personalise your book

Discover a contemporary take on a classic binding with this New Oriental Binding workshop—a fresh, functional evolution of the traditional Japanese stab-sewn book developed by Monique Lallier.

This innovative structure opens beautifully, accommodates thick or wrong-grain papers with ease, and offers endless creative possibilities. During the workshop you'll make a simple, functional binding while learning the techniques behind the structure. We'll also explore ways to develop the design at home, from using leather, cloth, or decorative papers to incorporating contrasting spine materials and more elaborate cover treatments. A selection of advanced examples will be available to inspire your own future projects.
