The Papermill
Things to do
Unique in New Zealand! The Papermill is a vibrant creative space where people with intellectual disabilities learn to make paper by hand from recycled paper and plants and create unique paper art and paper craft. By emphasizing ability rather than disability, self-esteem and confidence is foster in the artists, creating a memorable experience for visitors.
At the heart of The Papermill are its people. The Papermakers, find empowerment here amongst a supportive team environment and are more than happy to share their passion and enthusiasm with everyone who steps into the studios.
We love welcoming visitors and offering a tour of our studios. You can observe and even participate in the activities taking place in the Creative Studio and try your hand at papermaking in the Papermaking Studio.
After witnessing the unique talents of our artists, feel free to explore our small shop. It features a wonderful selection of handmade paper in various sizes, as well as one-of-a-kind greeting cards, notepads, earrings, and craft packs. You're sure to find something special!
If you're visiting with a group of eight or more, we recommend calling ahead to book a time. While there's no cost to visit, donations are always appreciated. As a Charitable Trust, we rely on the generosity of supporters to keep things running smoothly!
If you are interested in learning more about the papermaking processes we offer workshops on demand. Email info@thepapermill.co.nz or phone +64 (0)9 459 1459 to find out more.
