On Location: Sense, Create, Dance: Site-Specific Dance Workshop

Join us for ON Location: Sense. Create. Dance — a one-day site-specific dance workshop and sharing set in the lush surrounds of the Whangārei Quarry Gardens.

Through guided improvisation and creative movement tasks, we’ll explore how dance can emerge from the textures, shapes, and sounds of the gardens — from the curve of a pathway to the rhythm of birdsong. This is an open, welcoming space to move, sense, and respond to place.

A light lunch is provided, or you’re welcome to visit the Quail Café during breaks.

No dance experience needed — just curiosity and a willingness to explore. The day concludes with a gentle rolling presentation of short site-specific dances created by participants, documented as part of my ongoing research into dance, drawing, creative technologies, and ecologies.

Please note: This is a full-day workshop involving group and location-based activities. Please commit to the full day to support your fellow participants. Children (10+) are welcome if actively participating alongside adults.
