Ludbrook Garden

Things to do

A large country garden and orchard overlooking farmland, wetlands and ancient pa sites. Fig, citrus, stone fruit and sub tropical fruit trees mingle with native trees, palms, orchids and bromiliads.

The Ludbrook House and garden site, chosen for it's panoramic views was established in 1920.
The NZ Garden Trust registered country garden features herbaceous borders around the large two-storied house. Stone walls surround a third of the garden perimeter and the Fine Foods Outlet Shop. To the northeast a haha wall exposes stunning views of the farmland, volcanic rocky outcrops, wet lands and surrounding ancient pa-sites.

An orchard of fig, citrus, quince, stone fruit and sub-tropical fruits supply product for Ludbrook House Fine Foods.

The lower garden is planted with native trees and flax, semi-tropical palms and bromeliads mingling with exotic trees and shrubs. A high man made bank leads around a winter wet, summer dry pond.
