Kororipo Pā: The Return of a Historic Landmark

Whats On

The Turner Centre is hosting a talk about the historic Kororipo Pā site.

Kororipo Pā was wrongly taken into private ownership in 1838 and passed through different owners over time. On 27 March 2026, it was officially returned to Ngāti Rēhia.

The discussion will be led by Kipa Munro, a kaumātua and Chairperson of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Rēhia, who helped lead the negotiations to get the land back. David Clendon will also speak, sharing his knowledge of heritage and Northland’s cultural history.

The event will cover the history of Kororipo Pā, its cultural importance, and how it was returned to its people.
