Visit Northland's only nocturnal Kiwi House & see the resident kiwi foraging for food as they would in the wild. Learn about Kiwi conservation, spot our native gecko, wētā, stick insects & other invertebrates.
Exhibits in the Whangārei Museum include Māori taonga, city development, the natural history of local rivers and forests, relics from early settlers & the 2000-year-old remains of moa discovered in a local cave.
Explore the 62-acre Heritage Park where you’ll find the original Clarke Homestead c1886, the unique octagonal Oruaiti Chapel c1859, Riponui Pah School c1898, Jane Mander’s study c1908 & other historic buildings. Enjoy a picnic in the sun or grab an ice cream & cold drink from the friendly staff in the Kiwi North gift shop.
