Kahuwera Pā Hikoi & Korero

Whats On

**UPDATE**
Due to unrelenting adverse weather over the last few weeks, access to the Kahuwera Pā site is not achievable safely. In the interests of the well-being of our guests, speakers and hosts we have made the decision to postpone this hikoi and korero until the site has had more time to dry out. We thank you for your understanding and please keep an eye out on our Facebook page for further updates in regards a new date. https://www.facebook.com/matarikifestivalnz

Enjoy a walk to Kahuwera Pā site (Ngāre Raumati) which will allow an opportunity to reconnect with our Whakapapa to Ngāre Raumati. Kahuwera Pā on the Paroa Peninsula is a defended headland pa that features strongly in the historically significant Bay of Islands.

Te Uri ki Ngare Raumati will share korero, Te Kahuratai, Moko-Painting, and Alison Jones will share her insightful research from Tuai: A Traveller in Two Worlds. Alison will also update us with a korero “next steps“ in this evolving journey at Kororareka Marae on Wednesday 5th July.

Return to Kororareka Marae after the hikoi for kai plus 2pm Rahui Korero, Te Kahuratai, Moko Painting. Details: - Meet at Paroa Bay turn-off by 8.45am then we will all travel to the Farm Managers site to access Kahuwera. - Bring walking shoes - It is a short walk but there will be lots of discussion up at Kahuwera.
