This November, the sweeping coastal views of Tahamoana Angora Goat Farm transform into Northland’s ultimate hotspot for storytelling, stomp, and string-bending rhythms with the launch of the Folk & Roots Festival.

Bringing together a world-class lineup of local legends and roaring alt-country pioneers, this boutique, single-stage shindig promises an unmissable day of explosive live music, local food trucks, and high-octane energy overlooking the stunning Bream Bay coastline.

THE HEAVY HITTERS: INITIAL HEADLINE ANNOUNCEMENTS

TYRA AND THE TYRANTS: Fronted by Tyra Hammond—the legendary voice behind Opensouls' two Top 40 charting albums and trailblazer with hip-hop crew Sheelahroc—this formidable ensemble marks a bold new chapter. Fusing soul, jazz, and rock pedigree into a fierce live experience, they are set to co-headline with a gritty, soul-infused rock performance that will shake the paddock to its core. THE ADVOCATORS: A true homecoming for this powerhouse alt-country outfit, created by Northland outsiders Leroy Brown and Mark Bruce from nearby Kaiwaka and Maungaturoto. Melding chords learned from childhood hymn books with rock-and-roll grit, the duo has clocked thousands of Spotify streams and dominated student radio. Expect a blistering, raw set from a defining force in local independent music. CHET O'CONNELL: Bringing decades of world-class musicianship to the golden hour slot, Chet O’Connell is widely recognized as one of New Zealand's most dynamic, in-demand guitarists. To ensure our audience gets to and from Waipu Cove safely without congesting the farm site, we have locked in a 30km Regional Shuttle Network servicing key hubs including Waipu Township, Mangawhai, and Ruakaka. A transport levy has been built into the ticket structure to fully fund these operations. - BYO Festival Environment: We will not be selling alcohol, maintaining a family-friendly atmosphere that prioritizes our kaupapa. - On-Site Medical Crew: We will have a Hato Hone St John medic and a practicing nurse on-site for safety throughout the day and evening. - Portions of ticket proceeds will support the Bream Bay College Music & Arts Faculty and Waipu Primary Kapa Haka.
