Whats On
The Aotearoa Maori Surfing Titles take place annually during Labour Weekend.
To compete in this years event register at https://surfingnz.co.nz/event-enter-calendar/
The event brings together the biggest gathering of Maori surfers, family and friends from around our coastline to enjoy the two-day event whether that is by competing, supporting or volunteering.
The event has long been held in high regard and has unearthed a number of the nation’s elite surfing talent.
However, the focus of the event has always been as much on bringing Maori surfers together as it has been about high performance surfing and competition.
The Aotearoa Maori Surfing Titles is simply the waka for a celebration of Maori surfing and two great days shared amongst one another. In that sense, the event offers up a number of divisions from juniors through to seniors as well as longboard and standup paddle boarding.
The Titles were first held in Taranaki in 1993 before being held in a number of regions throughout New Zealand.
Surfers from both the North and South Island and numerous Iwi the length of the country participate and join together for the Clash of the Iwi.
The event commences with a powhiri at Roma Marae, Ahipara the host location this year. The event is mobile and will be held at the closest beach with the best conditions for surfing. Ring 0211134506 to hear the automated details about event location. The event finishes with a poroporoaki and prize giving on the Sunday evening.
