Aroha Music Society is delighted to present Andrew Joyce -cello & Jian Liu - piano a virtuosic duo bringing a bold and soaring musical experience to Kerikeri

For the pair’s first collaboration as a duo, Joyce & Liu have carefully crafted a programme that is framed by two cornerstone works of the cello and piano chamber repertoire, opening with the intricate melodies and harmonies of Bach’s Sonata in G minor, and ultimately celebrating the rich language and texture of Brahms.

The cello and piano keep their gentle dialogue engaged through English Folk Songs, a mesmerising Phantasiestück from Paul Hindemith, as well as contemporary works from New Zealand’s own Dorothy Buchanan and Chinese composer Fang Dongqing. Infusing the eclectic programme with grace and whimsy, these two musicians, at the height of their careers, weave their instruments’ voices together with exquisite artistry.
