A Little History
The Chilltech Beach 2 Basin has a long tradition in Whangarei. It was started by Athletics Whangarei, first organised in 1978 with just a few hundred competitors. Nowadays, the annual fun run has grown into one of the regions most popular run/walk events attracting anywhere from 1500 – 2500 participants each year.

There is a choice of three distances, a 10km, 6.8km and our new distance, the 2km kids dash, all finishing in the heart of the Town Basin. The event attracts a diverse range of participants from all walks of life, including but not limited to, individuals, whanau and sports/school/work teams.
Finisher medals, drink stations, entertainment along the course, photos, personalised bib numbers and much more!
Prizes from Chilltech include:
- A Daikin Heatpump including installation.
- The best-dressed prize is a voucher to the Quay Restaurant. The dress-up theme is Hot or Cold.
- A chance to win a brand new car.
Yes, that’s right! Pacific Motor Group have put up a car that can be won just by entering into any of our run/walk series events (T’s & C’s apply)!
