The Tai Tokerau Northland International Education Strategy
Developed by Northland Inc in conjunction with Education New Zealand.
Students from around the globe come to study here in Taitokerau Northland.
Our climate is enviable with warm, lingering summers and milder winters, meaning students can enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle year-round. With schools located in the main city of Whangārei, near the coast, in the picturesque town of Kerikeri or in rural heartland, those who come to Northland to study have a range of stunning locations to settle in.
While Taitokerau Northland is well positioned to achieve strong growth in this sector, there are also significant challenges. As a whole, Aotearoa New Zealand’s international education sector is exposed to a wide range of external influences, including global issues such as politics, war and currency fluctuations, and government level issues such as changes in legislation. The recent global Covid-19 pandemic has impacted significantly on the number of international students studying in Taitokerau Northland. However, with a new focus on global competence for domestic students, we are in a better place to welcome international students back, embracing the diversity and different cultures they bring.
