Posted on August 07, 2017

Karleen Everitt has been elected Chair of Northland Inc’s Board as part of an internal Board rotation process. Karleen is the organisation’s first Māori and woman Chair, following the previous chair, Warren Moyes, stepping down on 1 August.

Northland Inc Chief Executive Officer David Wilson said Mr Moyes’ had provided sage leadership and a steady hand since being elected as Chair in July 2014. “Warren's governance experience with organisations including Northpower, NorthTec, Tonga Power, West Coast Energy, Whangārei Tourism Trust, ASB Bank and Community Trust has been invaluable,” said Mr Wilson.

“Because of Warren’s insights and experience Northland Inc has gone from strength to strength in the past three years. We are so grateful for his contribution, and very pleased and privileged that he is staying on as a Director.”

Mr Wilson said Ms Everitt is an exciting choice for the role and brings considerable governance experience through directorships with NorthTec, CEO and Founder of Manaaki Solutions and previously having served in governance roles with Kaikohekohe Education Trust and Iwi organisations across Tai Tokerau.

“Karleen’s business leadership, passion for Tai Tokerau, strong knowledge of economic development, and extensive networks both nationally and regionally in Māori economic development, will be invaluable at a pivotal time for Northland’s growth and development,” said Mr Wilson.

“I am confident the appointment will bring a fresh perspective to the Board that will be of great assistance to us and our partners in the region as Northland moves to build on recent successes and address the significant challenges that still lay ahead.”

Ms Everitt said she is humbled to be appointed to the role of Chair, and is grateful for the full support of the Board and newly appointed Deputy Chair Jeroen Jongejans.

“We thank Warren for his leadership and look forward to his continued contribution and expertise at the Board table,” said Ms Everitt.

“The Board is committed to supporting our CEO David Wilson, the team at Northland Inc, our shareholder the Northland Regional Council and our partners in continuing to strengthen, diversify and grow the Northland economy.”
